During my time in Arua, Uganda, I witnessed the broken homes, the destroyed familys, the heartbroken woman's and the broken men's who had fallen, or been draged down into the pits of alcohol. While the Holy Spirit made it more and more clear for me to see the devistating impact alcohole had on the community, I started to wonder why. Why did God keep revealing this truth over and over again?

During a visit to a local church, before the meeting ended the pastor had some last words; he started talking about alcohol. He said that he earlier in the week read that Uganda was in the top of alcohol consumption in Africa, and that Arua was in the top of consumption in Uganda. He stated the problem but he couldn't follow up with the solution and this bothered me in my spirit; it attached to me, it became like a small nagging stone in my shoe that i couldn't remove.

What bothered me wasn't the pastors lack of a solution, it was my own lack of seeing that i had the solution.

Alcohol is affecting people all around the world, and I'm not an exception; my parents consumed alot of alcohol during my childhood and I myself has been an heavy drinker. And after blacking out due to too much alcohol i always told myself that i would not do that again, I was going to be moderate in my consumption and stop before it got to far; and it worked every time.

Alcohol is without a doubt filled with a cunning spirit, but through Christ we can flush it and prevail. I wasn't able to turn away from alcohol before i turned to Christ, I didn't find peace before He gave it to me; He himself flushed my spirit and replaced it with His spirit and in Him I can stand up and live a sober life.

During the 70s and 80s there was ongoing campaign in Sweden called "Spola kröken" - it roughly translates to "Stop drinking" -, with the purpose of lowering alcohol consumption.

The Crisis No One is Talking About: Uganda’s Silent Epidemic

In the West, we view addiction as a hurdle to be cleared with the help of clinics and counselors. But in Uganda, alcoholism isn't just a struggle—it is a death sentence.

The Math of Hopelessness

The statistics are staggering, but the human cost is even higher:

* The Demographics: 70% of the population is under 30.

* The Poverty: Average monthly earnings are 55–110USD.

* The Barrier: Private treatment costs 700–840USD per month.

For the vast majority, professional help is financially impossible. When treatment costs ten times your monthly salary, the "safety net" is a myth. The result? A cycle of domestic violence, a rising HIV burden, and a generation of young men and women lost to a "spirit" they cannot outrun on their own.

Introducing: The Lighthouse Café

“Flush the Spirit”

We believe that where the world sees a medical impossibility, God sees an opportunity for a miracle. The Lighthouse Café is more than a building; it is a beacon of hope in the heart of the darkness.

Our mission is built on the cornerstone of the Gospel. We recognize that the void alcohol attempts to numb can only be truly filled by the Holy Spirit. Under our banner, "Flush the Spirit", we provide a judgment-free space where:

* The Gospel is the Cure: We lead the broken toward repentance and a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

* Community is the Safety Net: A place for those abandoned by society to find a family and a purpose.

* Transformation is the Goal: Replacing the spirit of addiction with the Spirit of the Living God.

Will You Help Us Light the Way?

The battle against alcohol in Uganda is a spiritual one, but the resources needed to fight it are physical. We cannot offer this "open door" without your partnership.

Your donation goes directly toward establishing The Lighthouse Café as a permanent sanctuary for the lost. By giving, you aren't just funding a program; you are:

* Restoring Families: Giving children their fathers back and protecting women from violence.

* Fighting HIV: Breaking the cycle of alcohol-fueled risk that drives new infections.

* Saving Lives: Providing a path to salvation and sobriety for those who literally have nowhere else to go.
